'Sirenes' is a song with references to the sirens from Greek
Mythology. Women has often been portrayed as weak and fragile
in the art, but sirens has always been defined by their femininity
definitely without being weak. An energy that is strongly
expressed in this song with its sharp high vocals and its luring
melodies that change when you least expect it.
With this single comes a live session, shot at the stunning Frederiksborg castle in the
room, containing paintings of the First Schleswig War, that took place during the mid-
1800 hundred. This was the time when the danish national identity was created. It fits
perfectly with Ea Wims' theme of danish identity as a concept. All the members of the
ensemble are women dressed as beautiful fairytale creatures; like sirens, or the danish
mythological creature "Elveren" A Siren of the forest. Ea herself is wearing replicas of
danish iron- and viking age jewelry, again playing with the concept of Danish identity.
On the floor lays a dead man, a victim of the sirens with the danish flag covering his
face, referencing the slayed soldier on the painting behind them. All this plays together
in a unique artistic expression, reflecting 1000 years of danish history and culture.
